“Now the assembly of the believers were of one heart and one psyche, so that none spoke of having their own possessions, but everything was held in common. With great power the apostles gave testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. For there were no poor among them, for as many as owned lands and houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold and laid them at the feet of the apostles, who divided them among those who had need.” – Acts 4:32-35
What is the church’s story? Capitalism? Socialism? Communism? Each of these stories have their pros and their cons. Ultimately, if we are going to trade in our stories of “us and them” and “mine and yours” for God’s story, in which there is one body with one purpose we probably shouldn’t put our eggs in any of the world’s economic basket. I suggest we try “resurrectionism.” I’ll leave it to the church to work out the details.
