Silence

This evening we observed Good Friday in silence.  At 6:00 pm I pushed play on Into Great Silence, a documentary on the Grand Chartreuse in the French Alps, one of the world’s most ascetic monasteries.  The film is silent save for the creaking of floors, the ringing of bells and the chirping of birds.  It is very therapeutic and peaceful.  I watched as people were mysteriously drawn into the silence.  Some sat for the entire 2 hr 45 min documentary.  We also had a prayer walk with 10 stations at which one could read the passion story and pray.

What is it about our lives that causes us to melt in the presence of silence?  If you haven’t watched this film I highly encourage you to rent it and take three hours to detach from the noise and simply rest in silence.  I pray that this Easter season you come to know the fulness of God’s love for you in Jesus of Nazareth.
