What is God’s Will?

We’ve all been there and have asked the question, “What now God?  What do I do now?”  Sometimes we keep praying but no answer comes.  Sometimes we search the Bible but we just don’t hear the right words.  What then?  What is a person to do?

Well, fortunately for us God’s word is not silent even when it seems like God is.  Paul wrote the believers in Thessalonica and he encouraged them to do the will of God.  So what is the will of God?

Be joyful always; pray without ceasing; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus. – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Life is full of things over which we have no direct control – death, weather, taxes, other people’s attitudes.  Since the only thing we can control is ourselves perhaps we would do well to remember Paul’s words and be joyful, be prayerful and be thankful.

Think about it.  When your joy is low you count your blessings, i.e. being thankful.  When your prayer life is low you begin rejoicing and praising God and you’ll find yourself praying spontaneously.  When it seems like there is nothing to be thankful just ask God (through prayer) to help you see reasons to be joyful.

Whatever God’s will for you in life is it includes joy, prayer and thanksgiving.  Be joyful, be prayerful and be thankful and the rest will come.

  1. Amen, to that, George!
I can easily slip into complacency, but being joyful, being prayerful and being thankful are keys to jumpstarting my faith, my attitude and life. I love that we have such a positive and powerful God -and he expects us to be people of action, not sheep that just stand around waiting for the Shepherd to konk us with his crook. Thank the Lord he provides all the tools we need, all the time.

Thanks for sharing, George, one more amazingly well put together note of wisdom.
